What signing in does
Signing in is optional, and Roam works signed out as before. You do not need a Roam account. Signed in, Roam fills in your stream address and key, brings in your chat and events, and puts your title, category, viewer count and a Mark control on the phone.
- Open Settings > Twitch and tap Sign in with Twitch.
- Twitch's page opens in a browser tab over Roam. If Twitch asks you to sign in, do that first.
- On Activate Your Device the code is filled in. If Twitch asks for it, Roam shows it with Copy.
- Twitch shows what Roam asks for. Tap Authorize.
- Roam closes the tab and finishes by itself within a few seconds. Settings > Twitch then reads Signed in as with your name.
The first-run page's Twitch sign-in row and the Stream destination needed dialog, shown when you hold Go live with an empty Stream URL, start the same sign-in.
Black screen after Authorize? With the Twitch app installed, Twitch's last page can open in it. Tap the Signed in to Twitch notification, or press Back, to get back to Roam, signed in.
Go live
Roam keeps your stream key and Twitch's address as a destination named Twitch on the Stream page, and fills in an empty Stream URL with it. If the Stream URL held another address, tap Use it in Settings > Twitch to switch. Roam never replaces an address while a stream runs.
If you reset your stream key on Twitch, the next Go live fails. Roam then fetches the new key and says "Your Twitch stream key had changed. It is updated. Try Go live again."
If Twitch wants a step done on twitch.tv first, such as verifying a phone number, Roam says "Twitch refused the stream. See Settings > Twitch." That page shows Twitch's own words.
Chat and events
Signed in, chat comes over the sign-in's own connection, and Settings > Chat & TTS shows "Signed in as" with your name where the Twitch channel field was. Signed out, the field works as before.
The chat panel also shows follows, subs and gifts, raids, cheers, redeems, hype trains, ad breaks and shoutouts. Under TTS, Read chat messages, Read usernames and Read events choose what is read aloud, with a tick for each kind of event. To hear only events, turn off Read chat messages.
Testing follows? Twitch never announces a follow between one person's own accounts, so a follow from your second account shows nothing. Someone else's follow shows within a second or two.
Title, category and viewers
Settings > Twitch shows your Stream title and Category from Twitch. In Category, pick a name from the list above the keyboard. A name typed without picking is refused. Update sends both, and "Updated." confirms it.
While you are live, the page shows "Viewers:" with your count, refreshed every 30 seconds while it is open, and "Not live on Twitch" otherwise.
Mark a moment
Show Mark under Settings > Customisation. It is hidden until you do, then sits on the control column. Tap it while live and it reads Marked. Signed out, it says "Sign in with Twitch to use this."
Twitch puts the marker on your past broadcast, so Store past broadcasts must be on in your Twitch stream settings. To see your marks:
- Open Creator Dashboard > Video Producer on Twitch.
- Choose Publish on the broadcast's row.
- Choose Highlight. Your marks show on the Highlighter's timeline.
A Mark right after Go live can be refused while Twitch registers the stream. If Roam says "Twitch could not mark", try again a little later. Other refusals show Twitch's own words.
Sign out
Tap Sign out in Settings > Twitch. Roam forgets your sign-in, removes the Twitch destination and asks Twitch to revoke the sign-in. Destinations you saved yourself stay. If the Twitch address was your Stream URL, the Stream URL is empty afterwards.
Removing Roam on twitch.tv ends the sign-in too: Settings > Connections > Other Connections > Roam Live App > Disconnect. The chat panel then reads "Twitch: Sign in again", and chat carries on from your channel name.
What Roam keeps
Roam gets your Twitch user ID, login name and display name, and the tokens that keep you signed in, never your password. Your sign-in stays on this phone, encrypted, and is not in Roam's settings backup. Roam sends nothing from your Twitch account anywhere but Twitch. More on the privacy page.
